Pelvic Floor Therapy & Exercise

Pelvic disorders can have many effects and repercussions on your quality of life. The pelvic floor is a group of muscles, ligaments, and tissues that support the pelvic organs. Over time, pressure from the upper body may cause the pelvic wall muscles to weaken and cave in. As a result, the pelvic wall becomes loose and the bladder, uterus, and rectum descend and protrude into the wall of the vagina. This may cause a hard time controlling urine, a wider vagina, passing air from the vagina, less sexual pleasure, and even a hard time controlling bowel movements. If this disorder is severe, tissues may protrude all the way through the vaginal opening and outside the body! These disorders are typically caused by weakness or injury to the ligaments, connective tissue, and muscles of the pelvis.

Did you know that everyone can get pelvic floor disorders? There are multiple types of pelvic floor disorder, each one varying in symptoms, characteristics, and challenges.

In order to prevent pelvic floor disorders, it is important to strengthen the pelvic walls starting at a younger age. One easy and common way to do this is through the Kegel Exercise. It is very important to build the pelvic muscles from early on. However, just like any exercise, there is a right and wrong way to do this.

Dr. E. Jacob Simhaee has advanced technology called the FEMI Scan, which acts like a trainer and supervisor to help women perform Kegel Exercises correctly in order to build up the pelvic floor muscles.

When you see Dr. Simhaee, he will ask you: “Who develops more muscle mass? The person who goes to they gym and exercises on their own OR the person who has a trainer?” Have your answer ready. Also, be sure to tell Dr. E. Jacob Simhaee if you are suffering from symptoms that may lead to a diagnosis of pelvic floor disorder.
