About Urinary Incontinence

Manhasset OB/GYN | Manhasset About Urinary Incontinence | NY | Eskandar J. Simhaee, MD |

Urinary incontinence affects 10-30% of the adult female population in the United States. Don’t let your bladder control your life!! Avoid side effects of medications and potential risks of surgery.

Dr. Simhaee has state-of-the-art technology that can give you bladder confidence and control without drugs and surgery!

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine. It is seen as a symptom or sign of an underlying problem that affects one of body’s many systems including:

•    the lower urinary tract (bladder and urethra)
•    the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord)
•    the peripheral nerves that supply the bladder and urethra

The majority of those who are affected by urinary incontinence are the elderly, but the process of the disease starts in the middle age. With proper testing and selective treatment, urinancy incontinence can be treated.

There are three main types of urinary incontinence:

•    Stress incontinence which is the involuntary loss of urine during activities such a laughing, coughing, or sneezing. These activities cause an increased pressure on the bladder due to a poorly functioning bladder sphincter.

•    Urge incontinence which is the involuntary loss of urine due to an abnormal bladder contraction that is generally preceded by a sudden urgency to void.

•    Mixed incontinence which is the involuntarily loss of urine from a combination of stress and urge incontinence.

FEMISCAN (Personal Trainer)

Everyone knows that working out can help you build muscle tone and strengthen your weaker areas. But what’s better than a work out at the gym? Having your very own personal trainer in the comfort and privacy of your own home!

FemiScan is a “personal trainer” for Kegal exercises that are used to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. It includes a series of EMG programmed biofeedback devices designed by Mega Electronics in collaboration with leading gynecologists and physical therapists. Scientific and clinical studies have proven FemiScan to be effecting in urinary incontinence cases. FemiScan is a pain-free and risk-free method. FemiScan is easy and effective for all ages. FemiScan helps strengthen you pelvic floor muscles by the click of a button and with the use of biofeedback technology. Fortunately, FemiScan is also recommended for post-natal rehabilitation in order to avoid potential urinary incontinence after giving birth.

FemiScan works by monitoring and recording your muscle activity for each pelvic floor muscle contraction through EMG signals. This allows for accurate and fast measures. Based on these measures, the Home Trainer will give you direct verbal feedback to guide you towards the best exercising technique. When you come to visit Dr. Simhaee’s office for a follow-up, Dr. Simhaee or his associate will transfer the stored results to your file and help you set new training goals. This individualized training program has shown to significantly increase user compliance and contraction strength needed to decrease incontinence in women.

In order to see results, all you need to do is set the electrode in its place, put the headphones on, and press the FemiScan button to start the program. You will get easy-to-follow, verbal instructions through the headphones. Patients have noticed results within 8-12 weeks. However, changes usually occur after regular training of a few weeks. To reach permanent results, it is recommended to continue with the maintenance program or repeat the therapy period once a month.

ELPHI

Are you having trouble distinguishing which muscles need to contract during Kegal exercise? ELPHI/ELPHA 4 CONTI is a battery operated dual-channel therapy system designed by using Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation for Incontinence Therapy to provoke contraction of your pelvic floor so that you can feel which muscles need exercising. ELPHI is used for stress incontinence, urge incontinence, urinary leakage, andinterstitial cystitis (painful bladder). Interstitial cystitis is a chronic condition in which over 4 million people suffer from include a sense of urgency and increase frequency of urination. This condition is hard to treat. Dr. Simhaee is one of the few doctors who can treat this painful bladder by using direct electric stimulation to the bladder base with ELPHI. It helps normalize and control bladder function. The treatment is carried out with intra-vaginal electrodes that can be used both in the comfort and privacy of your own home and at Dr. Simhaee’s office. This technology targets the various type of muscle fiber and uses individualized programs to enhance treatment for your personal requirements. ELPHI also offers symptomatic management of acute, chronic, and cyclic pain syndromes with a dedicated pain-relief program if the pelvic floor muscles with the use of surface electrodes.

Dr. Simhaee is one of few Ob/Gyn physicians who provides his patients with this top-notch therapy for urinary incontinence.

URGENT PC

Urgent PC Neuromodulation System has been used by healthcare professionals since 2003. This system delivers a Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation (PTNS) that treats overactive bladder and associated symptoms of urinary urgency, urinary frequency, and urge incontinence. During treatment, a small, slim needle electrode (similar to an acupuncture needle) is inserted near your ankle. This electrode is connected to the battery-powered stimulator. Sessions take approximately 30 minutes and last approximately 12 weeks, however most patients notice a difference in only 6 weeks! This is followed by monthly maintenance treatments. However, therapy can be modified for your individual needs! Sessions are done in office. Studies have proven that up to 80% of patients see improvements with Urgent PC. Although temporary side-effects occur (such as, mild pain and slight skin inflammation near needle placement), most patients report no side effects at all. Usually, patients with such conditions as listed above must resort to a surgical treatment called Medtronic delivered by Interstim Systems. This treatment is a proven surgical (invasiva) therapy that targets the communicatio problem between the brain and the nerves that control the bladder. However, with Dr. Simhaee's Urgent PC treatment, you can find relief for this "miscommunication" with this new, state-of-the-art, non-invasive, painless, procedure.

FEMILIFT

Do you find yourself constantly looking for the closest bathroom?

Have you noticed that you have urinary incontinence or urinary leakage?

Are you experiencing loss of air (flatus) from your vagina? If yes, does this flatus cause you to feel embarrassed?

When you become lubricated during sex, have you noticed that you experience difficulty feeling your partner?

If you answered “YES” to one or more of these questions, you may be a perfect candidate for laser vaginal rejuvenation! FemiLift is a breakthrough, revolutionary technique for laser tightening of the vaginal walls causing vaginal looseness. FemiLift requires no surgery or downtime while still providing significant improvements to the vaginal structure by increasing collagen and elastin within the vaginal walls. This advanced technology uses a small vaginal probe to deliver laser energy around the entire circumference of the vagina to promote increased collagen production. As a result, it remodels and tightens the vagina while strengthening and supporting the urethra and bladder. Laser vaginal tightening will not only help eliminate involuntary urination, but will also increase sexual satisfaction for patients as well as their partner. Dr. Simhaee has used FemiLift with many patients. Every patient has reported feeling a restored youth after just their first FemiLift session!!

Structural changes in the vagina and urethra areas, called vaginal laxity, are caused by aging, pregnancy and/or vaginal child birth, hormonal changes, heavy body weight, and gravity. These changes cause decreased sensation, reduction in the enjoyment of sexual intercourse, increases stress urinary incontinence, feeling of looseness/droopiness in the vagina, feeling of pressure and/or something pulling down in the vagina, and even possible reoccurrence of vaginal infections. Decreased sexual pleasure can affect relationships or marriages while loose or weakened vaginal-urethral walls may lead to involuntary loss of urine during every-day activities such as laughing, coughing, sneezing, exercising, and sex.

FemiLift offers women an extremely safe and effective solution to restore a youthful vagina and improve urinary stress incontinence without surgery, without anesthesia, without downtime, and without any pain. Dr. Simhaee’s elite training and experience makes this non-invasive laser vaginal tightening procedure even safer!

Although Dr. Simhaee can not offer a 100% guarantee on services rendered due to patient individuality, Dr. Simhaee has been dedicated to providing high-quality personal care to women of all ages since 1986. Majority of women who have used these new, cutting-edge services have reported noticeable, positive differences with each of their individual concerns.
